A Typical Site Test
- Connect the voltage leads and current probes at the meter site, using direct cables, clamp-on probes or flexible probes.
- Verify the wiring before you test, so a crossed phase or reversed CT shows up first.
- Test the meter under customer load, or with synthesized load from the Powermetrix 335V Load Box, then check CT/PT ratio, measure burden, and test register and demand.
- Operate remotely when needed, running the test from a Windows device with Powermetrix Remote Manager (PRM) up to 100 feet away.

What does the 6618A test at a meter site?
Meter accuracy under customer load, CT and PT ratio, burden measurement, register and demand, and wiring. It runs these tests from one handheld three-phase instrument, so a technician can check the whole installation in one visit.
Can I run tests without standing at the meter?
Yes. Powermetrix Remote Manager (PRM) lets you operate the 6618A remotely over Bluetooth from a Windows laptop or tablet up to 100 feet (30 m) away, including in substations and other high-EMF locations.
Can the 6618A test a meter with no customer load?
Yes, with the Powermetrix 335V Load Box. It supplies synthesized load up to 277 VAC and 5 A, including the current harmonic waveforms referenced in ANSI C12.1. The 6618A measures burden on its own; with the 335V connected, it can also add burden to a CT circuit (up to 4 ohms) and demagnetize CTs. The 335V case holds the 6618A and standard accessories.
Does the 6618A need AC power at the meter site?
No. The 6618A runs on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, and the Powermetrix 335V Load Box is battery-operated too. The 335V is the only battery-operated voltage and current source on the market. Neither one needs an outlet, extension cord or generator at the site, so you can test where no power is available, set up faster and keep fewer cords around an energized installation. The 335V case includes a built-in battery charger.
Which current probes work with the 6618A?
Options include the MN353 clamp-on probe (0.05–150 A), a 36-inch flexible probe (1000 A), the low current probe (10 A), the direct current duckbill cable and high voltage Litewire probes. Extension cables are available in 15, 25 and 50 foot lengths.
What safety ratings does the 6618A carry?
CAT IV 600V, CE and CSA (Canada and US), and IEC 61010-1-2012. It is designed to ANSI and IEC specifications, with multi-language support.
