RESIDENTIAL METER TEST SYSTEM

RADIAN RM-17

The RADIAN RM‑17 is a compact, field‑ready system built to simplify residential meter testing. In a lightweight package (about 7 lbs), the RM‑17 combines practical portability with the accuracy, precision, and stability needed for confident on‑site testing—especially when fast answers and consistent results matter.

Product Highlights

Unlike meter testers that only “verify,” the RM‑17 incorporates a true RADIAN standard as its internal reference, delivering a guaranteed ±0.05% accuracy that is traceable to NIST. Automated testing uses site voltage and a synthesized phantom current source up to 50 Amps.

The built‑in reference standard—and its repeatability—helps validate a meter’s performance with confidence and supports reliable testing in both today’s residential environments and evolving solid‑state meter programs.

Features

Accurate, Precise Field Testing
  • Automated on‑site testing for residential billing meters with clear, easy‑to-follow procedures—practical for both experienced technicians and non‑metering personnel handling billing complaint testing.
  • Paperless workflow support: store up to 100 test result sets in the hand controller, upload results to a PC later, and maintain strong record integrity with time/date stamps plus User ID and Meter ID fields.
  • Standardized test procedures across crews: create and store multiple test configurations, build standard setups on a PC using WATT-Net, and distribute those setups to multiple hand controllers for consistent field execution.
  • Broad residential test coverage with support for Form 1S, 2S, 2SE, 12S (network), 12SE, and 25S meters.
  • Supports key test points such as light load, full load, and 0.5 lagging power factor, aligning with common residential meter testing expectations.

Portable Meter Test System

A Billing Complaint Test, Step by Step
  1. Set up at the meter socket with the RM-17 socket adapter, following your utility’s procedures for removing and setting meters.
  2. Attach a pickup: an RR-IR optical pickup for solid-state meters, a disk sensor for induction meters, or a KYZ pulse input adapter.
  3. Run the test. The RM-17 uses site voltage and its own synthesized current to test light load, full load and 0.5 lagging power factor, with optional demand and creep tests.
  4. Save the result with a time/date stamp, User ID and Meter ID, then transfer the data to a PC using WATT-Net.

Which Tester Is Right for You?

The RM-17 is built for one job: testing residential meters in service, quickly and with a true RADIAN reference standard. For other meter tests, the table shows which RADIAN tool fits.

RADIAN RM-17 FAQ

Which meters can the RM-17 test?

Socket meter forms 1S, 2S, 2SE, 12S (network), 12SE and 25S, in classes 100, 200 and 320. It tests both solid-state and induction meters.

The RM-17 has a true RADIAN watthour reference standard built into its socket adapter. Accuracy is ±0.01% typical and ±0.05% guaranteed, at unity and 0.5 lagging power factor, traceable to NIST. It ships with a calibration report, and RADIAN Calibration Services recalibrates it.
The RADIAN RM-17 on an all-white background.
No. It uses site voltage (60 to 600 VAC, autoranging) and a synthesized phantom current source up to 50 A, so the test does not depend on what the customer is using at the time.
The RADIAN RM-17 on an all-white background.
Yes. It runs a kW demand test over an interval you set, and an ANSI in-service creep test that you can turn on or off in the test setup. It also calculates and stores a weighted average with every result.
