MULTI-POSITION TEST BOARDS

8050, 8100 & 8200
WECO Multi-Position Test Boards

The WECO 8050, 8100, and 8200 by Radian Research are multi-position Test Boards that combine meter functional, qualification, demand, and accuracy testing in one modular test station. Each position tests its own meter, so a meter shop can test many meters side by side instead of one at a time.

All three use a synthesized voltage and current source. Every test condition is set by the station: any voltage from 30 V to 600 V, any phase angle, and programmable harmonics, sags, swells, and dropped cycles. Tests are repeatable, and meters can be tested under the conditions they will see on the grid. Each station has a removable, NIST-traceable RADIAN RX reference standard inside: the RADIAN RX-31 at 0.02% or the RADIAN RX-30 at 0.04%. The accuracy class of the RX you choose applies to the station.

Product Highlights

What Is a Multi-Position Test Board?

A multi-position Test Board holds several meters at once, from 4 up to 24 socket positions, each with its own socket, actuation button, and breaker. It is built for meter shops that test meters in volume, such as new shipments, returns, and meters for in-service programs. Adding positions adds capacity, and one station can run functional checks, demand, and accuracy testing without moving meters between boards.

Each socket is a modular 19-inch rack-mount unit, so a single socket can be removed while the others stay in service. Zero-insertion-force Smart Socket™ technology, with high-conduction gold connections and electronic socket control, gives an actuated connection that extends hardware life.

Open Socket Design

The WECO 8050, 8100, and 8200 use a RADIAN-exclusive open socket design. Dead-front operation means an open socket is never energized, and an empty position does not stop the populated sockets from running. There is no need for a bypass plate in an open socket.

The Advantages of a Synthesized Source

Set Exactly the Test You Need

The WECO 8050, 8100, and 8200 generate test voltage and current electronically, so every test condition is set by the test station:

  • Any test voltage from 30 V to 600 V, at 0.1 V resolution. Test at the meter’s nameplate voltage and at the edges of its range, for every service type, on one station.
  • Any phase angle from 0° to 359.9°, in 0.1° steps. Test any power factor, leading or lagging, and both delivered and received energy.
  • The same conditions, test after test. Programmed voltage, current, and phase angle repeat exactly, so results are comparable from test to test and year to year.

Test Meters the Way the Grid Treats Them

A synthesized source can also shape the waveform on purpose:

  • Programmable harmonics on the voltage, the current, or both
  • Voltage sags, swells, and dropped cycles
  • Voltage and phase imbalance

That lets you confirm how meters register and respond under distorted and disturbed conditions, not just a pure sine wave. Harmonics and reactive and apparent energy are also at the center of the proposed ANSI C12 changes. See our guide, ANSI C12 Changes Coming in 2027.

Multi-Position Testing at 50, 100, or 200 A

WECO 8050

The most compact of the three, for meter shops with limited floor space. Test current from 1 mA to 50 A. Available in series single-phase (8051) or true three-phase (8053), with 4 to 24 socket positions.
WECO 8050, 8100, and 8200
Test current from 1 mA to 100 A, for a broader range of meters. Available in series single-phase (8101) or true three-phase (8103), with 4 to 24 socket positions.
WECO 8050 front
Test current from 1 mA to 200 A, for the highest test currents. Available in series single-phase (8201) or true three-phase (8203), with 4 to 24 socket positions.
WECO 8050 Call Outs
Every model comes in two configurations. Series single-phase models (8051, 8101, 8201) apply one voltage source across all the elements of a polyphase meter, while current is still sourced separately for each phase, isolated from the others. That means self-contained meters can be tested without opening the potential link. True three-phase models (8053, 8103, 8203) apply three independent phases of voltage and current, for testing under true polyphase conditions.

Diverse Meter Testing Capabilities

One station covers the full range of meter shop testing: accuracy against a RADIAN reference standard, meter response to different loads, harmonics, and phase imbalance, and functional checks of communications, disconnect, alarms, and demand. A 7-inch color touchscreen handles local control, and an Ethernet port connects the station to a PC running WATT-Net Software.

Which Multi-Position Test Board Is Right for You?

All three models share the same foundation: synthesized voltage and current, watthour, VARhour, VAhour, and other measurement functions, a removable RADIAN reference standard at 0.02% or 0.04%, 4 to 24 socket positions, and WATT-Net Software.

Choose by the highest test current your meters need and the floor space you have. The WECO 8050 is the most compact, for shops with tight quarters. The WECO 8000 is also multi-position. It offers selectable standard test voltages from 69 V to 480 V and currents up to 50 A, and is the most cost-effective choice for watthour qualification, demand, and accuracy testing. For one meter at a time, see the WECO 4050X, 4150X, and 4330X single-position Test Boards, which can also be run in a multi-position format with WATT-Net.

WECO Multi-Position Test Board FAQ

What is a multi-position Test Board?

A test station that holds several meters at once, each in its own socket position. Meter shops use one to test meters in volume, such as new shipments, returns, and in-service programs, instead of one at a time. The WECO 8050, 8100, and 8200 range from 4 to 24 positions.
WATT-Net Asset Lifecycle Management
Every test condition is set by the test station. You can choose any voltage from 30 V to 600 V at 0.1 V resolution and any phase angle in 0.1° steps, and add harmonics, sags, swells, dropped cycles, and imbalance when you want them. Tests repeat exactly, one station covers every service voltage, and meters can be checked under distorted and disturbed conditions as well as a pure sine wave.
WATT-Net Database and Administration
Both are multi-position Test Boards. The WECO 8050, 8100, and 8200 generate both voltage and current electronically, so test voltage and waveforms are fully programmable, and accuracy is referenced to a removable RADIAN reference standard. The WECO 8000 offers selectable standard test voltages from 69 V to 480 V, generates current up to 50 A with the RADIAN Direct Drive Current Source (DDCS), and has an embedded reference standard at ±0.05%. It measures watthours (Wh) and is the most cost-effective choice for multi-position watthour qualification, demand, and accuracy testing. The WECO 8050, 8100, and 8200 add VARhour, VAhour, Vhour, Ahour, V²hour, and A²hour measurement.
WATT-Net Asset Lifecycle Management
Series single-phase models (8051, 8101, 8201) use one voltage source mapped to all of a meter's elements, with isolated current sourcing for each phase, so self-contained meters can be tested without opening the potential link. True three-phase models (8053, 8103, 8203) apply three independent phases of voltage and current.
WATT-Net Database and Administration
When you test one meter at a time. The WECO 4050X, 4150X, and 4330X are single-position Test Boards that can also be run in a multi-position format with WATT-Net.
WATT-Net Asset Lifecycle Management
Yes. Each socket is a modular 19-inch rack-mount unit. One can be removed while the others keep testing, and an empty socket is never energized.
