Pulse-to-Modbus Converter

PMC-1 (DC)

The SSI PMC-1 (DC) is the DC-powered configuration of our PMC-1 Pulse-to-Modbus Converter, designed for remote metering installations where 120VAC power is unavailable and a DC supply — such as a battery or solar power system — is the available source. It provides all the same functionality as the standard PMC-1: reading and storing pulses from two 2-wire KY inputs, converting them to kWh values, and making energy use and demand data accessible via Modbus TCP over Ethernet.

Like the standard PMC-1, the DC variant stores cumulative energy, instantaneous demand, average demand, peak demand, elapsed time, and raw pulse count for each channel in non-volatile memory. It is expandable to 8 total input channels using optional EXP Expansion Boards, and is programmed via USB using a standard terminal program.

Product Highlights

The PMC-1 (DC) is the natural companion to SSI’s SPS solar power supplies and other DC-powered field installations, enabling Modbus TCP-based energy data collection at remote sites without AC infrastructure. Its DC power input eliminates the need for a wall transformer or AC wiring at the metering location while preserving the full feature set of the standard PMC-1.

All PMC-1 features apply: six readable Modbus registers per channel, 15-minute demand intervals, independent per-channel register resets, eight diagnostic LEDs, and Ethernet connectivity via RJ-45.

Features

The SSI PMC-1 (DC) is the DC-powered variant of the PMC-1, providing two-channel Modbus TCP energy and demand data access for remote installations without AC power.
  • DC power input — configured for DC operation; compatible with battery banks, solar power supplies, and other DC sources.
  • Two 2-wire KY pulse inputs — +13VDC wetting voltage; compatible with dry contact and open-collector transistor outputs.
  • Modbus TCP over Ethernet — RJ-45 connection; unique static IP address; responds to standard Modbus client queries.
  • Six registers per channel — cumulative energy, instantaneous demand, average demand, peak demand, elapsed time, and raw pulse count.
  • Non-volatile memory — all register values stored through power loss; registers independently resettable per channel.
  • Expandable to 8 channels — compatible with EXP2, EXP4, and EXP6 expansion boards (PMC-1 V5 required).
  • Eight diagnostic LEDs — sequential connectivity checklist for power, processor, configuration, Ethernet link, and Modbus communication status.
