The EXP Expansion Boards are add-on input boards designed exclusively for use with our PMC-1 V5 Pulse-to-Modbus Converter, extending its base 2-channel capacity by 2, 4, or 6 additional 2-wire KY pulse input channels. Each board connects directly to the PMC-1’s main board via a ribbon cable and draws power entirely from the PMC-1 host — no additional power supply, external wiring, or network configuration is required.

The PMC-1 automatically detects which EXP board is installed on power-up and immediately makes all new channels available in its Modbus register map. Each additional input provides +12VDC wetting voltage, supports the full PMC-1 pulse value range (.001 to 655.35 kWh/pulse), and stores cumulative energy, raw pulse count, and demand data in non-volatile memory — all accessible via the existing PMC-1 Ethernet connection and IP address. Only one EXP board can be installed per PMC-1 unit.

EXP boards maintain the same functionality and data accessibility as the PMC-1’s built-in channels, with no difference in the Modbus register structure or energy data capabilities between base and expanded channels. Red LED indicators on each board display individual pulse input status at all times, providing the same visual feedback as the PMC-1’s built-in channel LEDs for straightforward field verification.

Because all expanded channels share the PMC-1’s existing Ethernet connection and IP address, adding an EXP board requires no changes to the network infrastructure, Modbus client configuration, or IP addressing scheme — making channel expansion as simple as plugging in the board and powering the unit back on.

EXP2

Best for installations requiring a modest expansion where only a few additional meters need to be connected.

EXP4

Adds 4 input channels; expands the PMC-1 from 2 to 6 total channels.

The most common choice for mid-scale submetering deployments requiring several additional meter connections from a single Modbus device.

EXP6

Adds 6 input channels; expands the PMC-1 from 2 to the maximum 8 total channels.

The right choice when full capacity is needed from the outset — such as building-wide submetering or campus energy monitoring installations.
