Portable Pulse Counter

PPC-1B

The SSI PPC-1B Portable Pulse Counter is a low-cost test device for counting a meter’s KYZ pulse outputs in field, lab, or permanent installation applications. It supplies its own wetting voltage to one side of the meter’s relay output and counts the resulting closures — configured as a Form A (2-wire) device, testing one side of a Form C (KYZ) output at a time. It is compatible with mercury-wetted, electromechanical, and solid-state relay outputs, and is powered by a 12VDC wall power supply.

The PPC-1B is packaged in a rugged NORYL enclosure built for demanding field conditions. Two banana jack input leads with probes connect to the meter’s KYZ output terminals or wires. An 8-digit display with non-volatile memory allows a maximum count of 99,999,999 and retains the pulse count through power interruptions. The cover can be rotated 90, 180, or 270 degrees to orient the input jacks for the preferred field configuration.

Product Highlights

The PPC-1B’s non-volatile display memory ensures that accumulated counts are not lost if power is interrupted during a test — a critical advantage in field environments where the 12VDC supply may be disconnected and reconnected. The counter can be manually reset by the technician at any time, making it straightforward to start a new count without returning to a base or office.

Its Form A configuration makes it practical for quickly checking whether either the KY or KZ side of a Form C output is pulsing correctly — identifying which side of the output may be faulty without requiring additional test equipment.
