Ultra High-Speed Water & Gas Meter Relay

RTR-2C

The SSI RTR-2C Ultra High-Speed Repeating Pulse Relay uses a high-speed digital signal processor to interface high-speed pulse outputs from water and gas meters to RTUs, counters, recorders, and telemetry equipment. It is configured with one Form A (2-wire) pulse input and two corresponding isolated solid-state dry-contact Form A (KY) outputs — providing two duplicated, independently isolated pulse outputs from a single meter connection, eliminating the need for a separate pulse-splitting relay.

The RTR-2C supports up to 200 pulses per second and offers eight field-selectable input filter times — 25, 50, 100, 200, or 500 microseconds, or 1, 5, or 20 milliseconds — allowing it to accept valid high-speed meter pulses while rejecting noise in even the most demanding environments. An onboard 12V/20mA output terminal can power the water or gas meter if required.

Product Highlights

The RTR-2C operates in two output modes: Normal mode, where the output mirrors the input pulse duration, and Fixed mode, where a selectable output closure time (5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, or 1000mS) is generated regardless of input pulse width — enabling both pulse stretching for slower downstream equipment and pulse shortening for high-rate applications.

If input pulses arrive faster than the output can deliver them, the RTR-2C’s microcontroller stores up to 65,535 pulses in a buffer and delivers them in a 50/50 duty cycle, ensuring no pulses are ever lost.

A yellow LED displays input pulse status and a green LED confirms output status at all times, with a red overflow LED lighting if the 65,535-pulse buffer is exceeded.

Features

The SSI RTR-2C is a DSP-based high-speed water and gas meter relay handling up to 200 pulses per second with two isolated outputs, 65,535-pulse buffer, and 8 selectable filter times.
  • Up to 200 pulses per second — DSP-based design handles high-speed water and gas meter pulse rates with reliable accuracy.
  • 8 selectable input filter times — 25µs to 20mS in eight steps; rejects noise while accepting valid high-speed pulses.
  • Two isolated Form A outputs — dual independent KY solid-state dry-contact outputs for two downstream devices from one meter.
  • Normal and Fixed output modes — Normal mirrors input timing; Fixed generates 5–1000mS output closures for pulse stretching or shortening.
  • 65,535-pulse output buffer — stores excess pulses during high-rate bursts; delivers in 50/50 duty cycle to prevent pulse loss.
  • Onboard 12V/20mA meter power output — directly powers water or gas meters that require an external supply voltage.
  • Yellow, green, and red LED indicators — display input status, output status, and overflow condition independently.
