Product Highlights
The RD-BR1 Burden & Ratio Analysis Module is designed as an accessory for the Radian Research RD-2x or RD-3x Dytronic Standards for testing CTs without interruption to the customer’s service. The design features single cycle burden insertion with simultaneous CT ratio and phase error. The design allows all ANSI values of 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0 and 8.0 Ohms to be inserted with virtually no magnetizing effect on the CT. With currents up to 20 Amps a temperature controlled fan prevents the unit from overheating.
CT Burden Test
The CT Burden Test can be performed using any number of the available burden resistors. Individual burden, select multiple burdens or the complete sequence is performed fast via Radian’s ground breaking solid state technology. Each burden is inserted and removed in one line cycle, allowing the CT to be tested without adding any residual magnetization in the CT. In addition, this measurement technique minimizes any uncertainty of measurement caused by fluctuation of load. The measurement result of current with and without burden allows the percent (%) change to be automatically calculated.
CT Ratio and Phase Error
The CT Ratio feature helps find lost revenue by allowing the technician to verify CT name plate information without having to remove the CT from service. The addition of CT Phase Error allows the technician to find defective installations while testing the CT ratio, minimizing time at each site.
CT Demagnetization
A CT Demagnetization can be easily performed at the end of each performance test. Performing a quick CT demag on a CT that is saturated can save time and money by preventing the unnecessary change of a good CT.
Safety, Safety, Safety!!!
The RD-BR1 is the safest CT Burden & Ratio Tester available. Multiple stages of fail safety are utilized to prevent harm to the user. An automatic system continuity check is performed before opening the secondary of the CT. If an open secondary is detected the RD-BR1 will automatically close the loop. In addition, testing of the internal burden resistors is done to verify operation before adding them into the secondary loop. The use of solid state electronics eliminates the worry of diminished life caused by over cycling relays.
Data Collection
Data collected during the test can be easily saved. Test configurations and results can be stored and downloaded for viewing and exporting. Quick and simple test reports are automatically created at the end of each test.
